The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Conflicts, Ethics & Commercial Associate Advisor to join our Risk & Compliance Department in Glasgow on a full time, permanent basis.

You will work with an experienced in-house legal team to analyse and advise the global partnership on the legal and commercial issues associated with taking on new business and the management of existing business with particular emphasis on, but not limited to, ensuring that the firm meets its obligations to clients and regulators worldwide.

The primary focus of your role will be to ensure that taking into account the commercial challenges of a global law firm, you are able to help Ashurst lawyers navigate, understand and comply with the applicable rules of professional conduct (including "conflicts of interest" and "confidentiality") in a competitive landscape.

Hours of Work:

Core hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00am - 5.30pm however you will be required to work such hours as are necessary to carry out your duties.

The team is Global and there will be a requirement for calls outside of these hours. You may be required to be 'on call' outside core hours to provide urgent advice to the business.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

* Assisting in providing incisive legal advice on the rules of professional conduct to our global network of lawyers (e.g. SRA, ASCR, Code of Conduct), primarily in the context of taking on new business.
* Undertaking legal research to support proposing to act on the new instruction, referencing relevant case law as appropriate.
* Analysing information in the Firm's conflict management systems to identify any potential conflicts of interest relating to new matters and clients across all practice areas of the Firm
* Communicating with partners in person, by phone and on email to navigate potential legal and commercial issues.
* Assist in the implementation of internal processes for compliance with new legislation, regulation and best practice, particularly in the area of conflicts of interest and confidential information issues.

This is a full-time, permanent role based in our Glasgow office with hybrid working.

About you:

The successful candidate will have:

* Strong knowledge of ethical principles, the rules of professional conduct and client care, including but not limited to, conflicts of interest and the protection of confidential information using "information barriers".
* Understanding of the fundamentals of disputes, finance and corporate transactions, with deep interest/experience in one or more practice areas in which Ashurst specialises.
* Strong interpersonal skills; able to liaise effectively with all levels of legal and support staff to assist with the resolution of issues in a diplomatic manner.
* Experience in assessment and advice on panel terms and other contractual arrangements with clients.
* Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and able to work well under pressure
