The Role
We are seeking Specialist Teaching Assistants to work with pupils with a wide range of communication abilities, including verbal, minimally verbal, and non-verbal learners. You will work closely with class teachers and therapists to support learning, communication, behaviour, and daily care.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide one-to-one or small group support for pupils with ASD
* Support communication using AAC systems, Makaton, PECS, or other personalised approaches
* Assist with sensory regulation, engagement, and behaviour support
* Support personal care, mobility, and medical needs
* Implement structured learning activities and visual schedules
* Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and families to meet EHCP targets
* Record pupil progress and contribute to assessment and planning
Person Specification
* Experience supporting children with ASD, verbal and non-verbal
* Strong understanding of communication strategies for non-verbal pupils
* Patient, empathetic, and adaptable
* Able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
* Committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
You must have a clear Enhanced DBS certificate to be considered for this role. If you do not have one Supply Star Recruitment can support you in obtaining one.
