We are seeking an experienced Assistant Contracts Manager (Arboriculture) to support the delivery of a diverse portfolio of arboricultural contracts across the UK. This role is ideal for an industry professional with strong technical knowledge of arboriculture, contract delivery, and who is motivated to lead and develop teams, manage budgets, and deliver sustainable outcomes for our clients and the environment. Working closely with Contracts Managers and colleagues across multiple divisions, you will play a key role in ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with industry best practice. This is a fast-paced, strategic role within the division linking multiple services across the business to be successful and to provide an outstanding service to our clients. Key Responsibilities Contract & Project Management Assist in the management and delivery of arboricultural contracts, ranging from routine maintenance to complex tree works and large-scale commercial projects. Ensure all arboricultural operations comply with BS 3998:2010, current legislation, and industry best practice. Monitoring projects, ensuring works are completed on time, within budget, and to agreed specifications. Financial & Commercial Control Support with the financial performance of allocated projects, including cost tracking, forecasting, and margin control. Prepare quotations, estimates, and pricing for arboricultural works, including reactive and planned programmes. Contribute to tender submissions, pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs), and Invitations to Tender (ITTs). Leadership & Team Management Lead, motivate, and develop operational teams including Team Leaders, Arborists, Operatives, Trainees and Subcontractors. Set work schedules, allocate resources, and carry out site quality and compliance inspections. Promote best practice in arboriculture, environmental management, and customer service. Health, Safety & Compliance Implement and monitor industry-specific Health & Safety procedures, including: Site risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) Toolbox talks and inductions PPE compliance and equipment and machinery inspections Ensure compliance with NPTC/LANTRA competency, company Health & Safety policies and client requirements. Environmental & Ecological Integration Work collaboratively with the consultancy teams to ensure compliance with wildlife legislation (e.g. nesting birds, bats, protected species) and liaising with the arboricultural surveyors to ensure works are carried out to specification and to the agreed timeframes. Support the delivery and implementation of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) objectives, habitat creation, and environmentally sensitive working practices. Oversee tree works, the management, and retention of client tree stock to support long-term canopy cover and climate resilience. Client & Stakeholder Engagement Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, including local authorities, housing associations, and commercial landowners. Liaise with Tree Officers, Planning Officers, and other statutory consultees where required. Actively seek opportunities to grow contracts and develop new arboricultural business in line with divisional strategies. Resources & Logistics Manage teams, plant, and equipment to ensure efficient delivery of works. Coordinate with internal departments including Landscape & Environment, Consultancy, Finance, and HR. Essential Skills & Experience Proven experience working within the arboricultural industry and project management. Demonstrable working knowledge of: BS3998:2010 TPOs and Conservation Area regulations Health & Safety, Legislation and Industry best Practice relevant to arboriculture Proven experience managing operational teams, work schedules and client relations. Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills. Confident use of IT systems for project management and financial tracking. Full, UK driving licence. Desirable Skills & Qualifications Level 3 qualification in Arboriculture or equivalent. NPTC / LANTRA certifications (e.g. tree inspection, aerial rescue, chainsaw units). Experience working with local authorities or public-sector contracts. Project Management/CDM qualifications. Experience utility arboriculture.
