An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Maternity Support Worker to join our friendly and innovative Infant Feeding team. We are looking for an experienced, passionate and enthusiastic individual to assist with the maintenance of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Stage 3 Accreditation, thereby ensuring the infant feeding services within the SWFT are of the highest standard possible. The post holder will work closely with the Infant Feeding Midwives and Co-ordinator, midwifery and neonatal teams as well as external agencies.
You will undertake high quality, caring and compassionate personal care under the direction, but not direct supervision of the registered professionals within the team.
The role of the Infant Feeding Support Worker is multifaceted. It involves providing clinical infant feeding support to women and babies who experience challenges in their feeding journey within the Maternity Unit, the Children’s Ward and the Community.
The Maternity Support Worker will undertake high quality, caring and compassionate personal care and associated duties under the direction, but not direct supervision, of the registered professional and work as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
The primary role of the Maternity Support Worker (MSW) is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to women centred care.
The midwife is ultimately responsible for the care of the mother and her new-born(s), and it is under the direction of the midwife/Registered Nurse (RN) that the MSW assists with and provides care following completion of any relevant or appropriate training. The post is rotational and the employee will be provided with appropriate training for the clinical setting in which they are working. These settings include maternity theatres, inpatient care and community.
