Location: Newham, East London

Salary: MPS/UPS (Inner London) (£40,766–£62,092)
Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent
Start Date: September 2025

About the Role
Our client, a successful and inclusive all-through school and sixth form in Newham, is currently seeking a talented and inspiring Teacher of Art and Design. This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant department and contribute to a thriving creative curriculum across the school.

This role is open to ECTs or, for candidates with relevant experience, a TLR is available. You will join a team committed to nurturing student creativity, raising aspirations, and promoting excellence in visual arts.

Main Responsibilities

* Deliver a broad, balanced and engaging Art and Design curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4

* Support students’ progress through effective assessment, feedback, and targeted support

* Contribute to curriculum planning, lesson design, and resource development

* Create a positive and inclusive classroom culture that supports creativity and achievement

* Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure consistency and high standards across the department

* Maintain accurate records of student performance and contribute to departmental tracking and reporting

* Be an active form tutor and support the pastoral development of students

* Foster strong relationships with students, families, and the wider school community

What They Are Looking For
The successful candidate will:

* Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree in Art or a related field

* Have successful teaching experience (including teaching practice) in secondary schools, ideally in diverse, multi-ethnic settings

* Be confident in teaching across a range of art disciplines and techniques

* Demonstrate an understanding of curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4

* Have a creative and forward-thinking approach to planning and pedagogy

* Show commitment to high expectations, inclusive practice, and personalised learning

* Be confident using ICT tools in the classroom, including interactive whiteboards and digital art applications

* Be a strong communicator, able to engage positively with parents and external agencies

* Have excellent organisation, time management, and teamworking skills

* Be committed to professional development and continuous improvement

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
