Junior Maintenance Technician (Training Position)
Location: Central Oxfordshire (Oxford / Cowley / Abingdon / Didcot)
We’re looking for a motivated, hands-on individual to join our Facilities Team as a Junior Maintenance Technician. This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity for someone looking to build a career in building maintenance, facilities management, or engineering.
No extensive experience required — just the right attitude, curiosity, and willingness to learn. We’ll provide full training and ongoing support to help you grow.
About the Role
You’ll work alongside experienced technicians to help keep our buildings safe, functional, and well-maintained. This role offers exposure to a wide range of maintenance and facilities tasks, giving you a strong foundation for your future career.
What You’ll Learn & Do
With training and support, you will:
1. Carry out basic building repairs and general maintenance
2. Support routine inspections and testing (e.g. fire alarms, emergency lighting)
3. Maintain records, logbooks, and electronic systems
4. Assist with contractor supervision and inductions
5. Respond to helpdesk requests (e.g. room setups, furniture moves)
6. Support small projects such as office or lab moves and refurbishments
7. Join an out-of-hours on-call rota once fully trained
Who We’re Looking For
Essential:
8. Interest in maintenance, engineering, or practical work
9. Willingness to learn and develop new skills
10. Basic problem-solving ability
11. Comfortable using tools (or eager to learn)
12. Physically able to carry out manual tasks
13. Good communication and teamwork skills
14. Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated
15. Basic literacy and numeracy
16. Full driving licence (or working towards one)
Desirable (not required):
17. Any DIY, mechanical, electrical, or building experience
18. Facilities or maintenance experience
19. Understanding of planned preventative maintenance
20. Awareness of health & safety practices
21. Familiarity with Microsoft Office (especially Outlook)
22. Experience in lab or scientific environments
23. Full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle
Working Hours
24. 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday (08:00–17:00, with 1-hour lunch)
25. Occasional overtime and call-out work once trained
26. Travel between sites required
