Junior Cost Consultant / Quantity Surveyor
Location: Durham (Hybrid)
Hours: 40 Hours per Week
Rate: £318 per day (Ltd – based on 8-hour day)
Duration: 12 months +
Overview:
Our client is an Engineering and Project Services consultancy seeking a Junior Cost Consultant / Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of water infrastructure projects in Durham under the Northumbrian Water framework.
Reporting to the Frame Manager, you will provide commercial support across multiple live projects within the AMP 8 programme, ensuring robust cost control, contract administration, and financial reporting.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a regulated utilities environment on long-term infrastructure investment works.
Duties:
Support the commercial management of clean water and wastewater infrastructure projects
Assist with NEC3 / NEC4 contract administration
Manage and track Compensation Events and Early Warnings
Support subcontractor procurement, tender analysis, and account management
Prepare, review, and agree applications for payment
Assist with cost forecasting, CVRs, and financial reporting
Support change management processes in line with contract requirements
Maintain accurate commercial records and contractual correspondence
Liaise with operational, design, and project delivery teams
Ensure compliance with framework and governance requirements
Experience & Requirements
Essential
Demonstrated experience within the utilities sector (clean water, wastewater, or gas)
Experience in a Quantity Surveying or commercial management role
Working knowledge of NEC contracts
Strong commercial awareness and cost control capability
2-5 years experience minimum
Desirable
Degree in Quantity Surveying or related commercial management discipline
Working towards or holding MRICS (Chartered) status
Experience operating within a regulated framework environment
Additional Requirements
Strong numerical, analytical, and reporting skills
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
Ability to work under senior commercial leadership
Full UK driving licence preferred
