The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Senior Project Manager to join our Consulting Rail Design team. With shared office space in Birmingham, Derby, Manchester, York, Bristol and Cardiff, we welcome applications from Senior Project Managers across these regions. Supporting our growing project management team, delivering work on our major projects such as Northern Power House Rail, Eastern Routes Partnership, North West & Central framework, Core Valley Lines, Trans-Pennine Route Upgrade and Cardiff Crossrail. Our in‑house engineers deliver design across all NR stages and all rail disciplines.
The Role
Our Lead Senior Project Managers play an important part within the Rail Design team and alongside our clients. As a Lead Senior Project Manager you will be a key part of the team, acting as a team leader and taking responsibility for supporting your Project Management team in coordinating the integration of multidisciplinary designs across a variety of rail design schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior Project Managers.
Responsibilities
* Lead a team to produce technically sound project management deliverables, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
* Prepare, check and maintain project management related information that enables Amey Consulting commissions to be delivered whilst satisfying the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
* Oversee the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and take responsibility for their actions.
* Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within your portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables.
* Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.
* Significantly contribute to the preparation of bids and the general work‑winning function.
* Assume the role of people manager when required by the business.
* Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.
Qualifications & Experience
* Developed experience and expertise within the field of Project Management, probably gained in a Senior Project Management role or equivalent.
* Experienced in undertaking project related tasks associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
* Capable of acting as day‑to‑day main project management contact for a project where required under the terms of the commission.
* Can take ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables to a reasonable standard.
* Highly experienced with project management software and similar analytical tools.
* Demonstrates good commercial awareness.
* Demonstrates a good understanding of interface management.
* Successful completion of either the professional review or end‑point assessment, resulting in the award of Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence.
* Bachelors or Masters Degree in an appropriate subject.
* Full membership of the Association for Project Management.
* Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) status with the Association for Project Management.
