The role
Are you passionate about making a difference to young people who need additional support to thrive? Vision for Education is seeking dedicated, resilient and compassionate Teaching Assistants to work in an alternative provision school located in the heart of Nottingham, supporting students who are unable to access mainstream education. This role involves working closely with students aged 11–19, helping them re-engage with learning and develop socially, emotionally, and academically. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in building trusted relationships, promoting positive well-being, and supporting pupils to overcome barriers to learning and personal development. Contract: Ongoing / Temp-to-perm opportunities available Hours: 8am-3pm Monday-Friday About the role: Working closely with teachers and other professionals, the role involves providing tailored support in lessons, implementing individual education plans, promoting positive behaviour, and helping to create an inclusive learning environment. 0 Support pupils’ social, emotional, and communication needs, enabling them to engage fully in school life and make progress both academically and personally. To provide targeted support for pupils, helping them to access the curriculum, develop confidence and independence, and make progress in their learning and personal development. The role involves working closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure pupils receive appropriate support and achieve positive outcomes. About the school: The school is an alternative provision school that delivers education to young people who are not currently accessing mainstream education. All pupils remain on the roll of their previous school while attending The Academy. The school empowers students to re-engage with learning by providing tailored support that enables them to build essential skills and achieve significant personal and academic growth. The school embraces innovation across all aspects of the school’s provision, from the effective use of technology in the classroom to the design of learning environments. About you: We welcome applications from people with a background in:- PRUs, SEMH settings or alternative provisions, Youth work, mentoring or behaviour support, Psychology, criminology, social care or safeguarding-based roles You will have:- Experience working in an Alternative Provision, Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), or specialist setting is desirable but not essential. Knowledge of SEND, SEMH needs, trauma-informed practice, and restorative approaches. Understanding of behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques. Experience supporting pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Knowledge of literacy, numeracy, and intervention programmes. Support pupils in accessing learning and engaging positively in education. Provide one-to-one and small-group support tailored to individual needs. Able to obtain suitable references and a valid DBS check. Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are a suitable qualification for working with children and experience working with special education needs.
