The Acorn Centre/Vale of Leven General Hospital

The role:

Health Care Support Worker is required for West Dunbartonshire Community Childrens Nursing Team as part of Specialist Childrens Services NHS GG&C.

The post holder will support the Community Childrens Nursing Service to provide an accessible, appropriate, culturally sensitive, safe, person centred and effective service for children, young people and families in the community, by working in partnership with service users, care providers and other agencies.

The work will be facilitated, supervised and supported by the Community Childrens Nursing Team, and post holder is expected to work across all community paediatric nursing pathways in West Dunbartonshire HSCP which includes CCN Home / CCN Additional Support for Learning (ASL) Kilpatrick and Riverside Schools, Health for All and Disability Nursing Services.

The post holder will be expected to work within the Acorn Paediatric Community and Acute clinics, including Trisomy 13 (Downs Syndrome) Clinic. They will be expected to assist at Immunisation Clinics within Kilpatrick and Riverside ASL Schools.

The post holder will assist the Registered Nurse to carry out sleep hygiene and sleep reviews.

Post holder will be expected to carry out home visits, carrying out a variety of clinical tasks including venepuncture.

Post holder will be expected to assist children, young people and families in relevant settings to address health promotion activities that can positively improve health and wellbeing

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

1. Location based in Acorn Centre, Vale of Leven Hospital
2. Permanent Contract
3. Full-time position (37 hours per week)
4. Shift pattern fort his post are 0900am to 1700pm, 4 days per week, 0900am-15:30pm 1 day per week. The service is Monday - Friday

Key responsibilities:

5. The Healthcare Assistant will be responsible for delivering safe, efficient and person centred care to service users / families, as delegated and directed by the SCPT Nursing team. The post holder will support the SCPT Nursing team in the delivery of care to service users, families / carers.
6. The post holder will promote a culture of engagement with service users, families / carers, which includes as core principles and values an approach which is caring, compassionate, courteous, empathetic and respectful.
7. The post holder will promote the principles of self care to clients, families and carers and empower them to access and use health resources in their community.
8. Attend staff meetings and clinical and mandatory training and be encouraged to record their training participation and learning experiences in Knowledge and Skills Framework.
9. Participate in systems of practice support and personal development planning in line with the Knowledge and Skills Framework
10. Maintain accurate and up to date clinical records ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act in discussion with SCPT Nurse supervising case.
11. Work within national, organisational and local policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure maintenance of safe, person centred and effective practices working practices for children, young people and families.
12. To work with an awareness of cultural differences and be respectful of those with regard to colleagues, children, families, young people, and communities.
13. Establish and maintain professional relationships within and outside of the SCPT Nursing team.
14. Refer to a senior member of the SCPT Nursing team for any questions they may have relating to children, young people and families, or for any suggestions or complaints that they wish to raise.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

15. SVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent experience

16. Ability to work with people and as part of a team.

17. Ability to work without direct supervision.

18. Good communication skills both written and verbal.

19. Ability to work with children, young people and families

20. Basic computing skills.
