Job overview

Resp is best! Are you fascinated by sputum? Do you love a cough assist verses IPPB debate? Would you like to improve your respiratory skills whilst still being able to be an acute rehab legend? Wanting an opportunity to develop your leadership skills? We have great MDT`s, experienced senior physiotherapists and motivated junior staff just waiting for you to join us!

This post offers rotations around 5 specialist respiratory areas, Neurosurgery, Critical Care, Respiratory Medicine, Respiratory High Care Unit and Surgery which includes head & neck and upper GI.
These rotations will challenge and develop a variety of respiratory skills, from tracheostomy weaning to supporting patients on NIV. As a therapy team we are also passionate about acute rehab, so you will still be able to use and improve handling skills and normal movement principles. There will also be an opportunity to supervise students, assistants, and Band 5`s, as well as leading on training and teachings sessions.

We work as integrated teams with Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants, but you will also work alongside a range of multi-disciplinary teams.

We have recently launched an advanced respiratory educational programme for our Band 6 respiratory physiotherapists to ensure your development and training is valued.

Come and join us – we know you won’t regret taking the leap!

Main duties of the job

You will be welcomed into a supportive environment with a clear supervision structure through which personal and professional development is encouraged. You will have other opportunities to develop leadership skills and be able to lead and implement clinical service improvements and seek opportunities for research developments to embed evidence-based practice.

You would also be responsible for supervising and supporting junior staff and students in their development within the wider department. There will be opportunities to develop your own teaching and educational development through case study presentations, attendance at advanced teaching sessions and support for research activity.

You must possess good communication, time-management, and interpersonal skills, and be motivated and able to work efficiently both alone and as part of an integrated team.

The Core Therapies department provides an emergency on call service and therapists will be expected to join the rota. We are also moving towards 7 day working, and as such you will be expected to work flexibly to support this model of service delivery when it is implemented.

We know we are biased, but we really want to convey this is a fabulous opportunity, in which you will be fully supported by the existing therapy teams and the Professional Leads.

Working for our organisation

We have 10,000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done. You’ll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path.

You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.

We work as integrated teams with Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants, but you will also work alongside a range of multi-disciplinary teams.
