Robotics Welding Technician (WAMM)

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and hands‑on WAAM Technician to support the production of high‑value components using advanced multi‑axis robotic welding systems.
This role combines robotic welding, CNC-controlled manufacturing, and data-driven quality assurance, requiring both practical expertise and strong technical understanding. You will be responsible for translating digital designs into precision-built metal components, ensuring process stability, repeatability, and full traceability across all builds.
Working at the forefront of additive manufacturing, you will play a key role in both process development and production delivery within a collaborative, high-performance environment.
Key Responsibilities
Robotic Welding & Equipment Setup
1. Set up, configure, and operate ABB robotic welding systems, including wire feed, shielding gas, and arc parameters
2. Prepare and run Fronius welding equipment, developing and refining parameters for new materials and applications
Programming & Process Development
3. Convert 3D CAD models into ABB RAPID programs
4. Develop and optimise: -Toolpaths and deposition strategies and Travel speeds and layer build parameters
5. Act as a technical interface between Manufacturing Engineering and Design teams
In-Process Monitoring & Control
6. Continuously monitor weld pool behaviour, bead formation, and thermal input
7. Identify and respond to process deviations in real time
8. Safely pause, adjust, and restart builds to maintain quality and consistency
Inspection & Quality Assurance
9. Perform post-build inspections, including dimensional checks and surface evaluation
10. Verify build integrity and consistency against specifications
11. Capture and record process parameters to maintain full traceability and compliance
Documentation & Data Management
12. Maintain accurate build records and process documentation
13. Record deviations, investigate root causes, and implement corrective actions
14. Support ongoing development of process monitoring and data capture systems
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
15. Work closely with Design, R&D, and Quality teams to improve processes and outcomes
16. Contribute to optimisation of materials, deposition strategies, and manufacturing efficiency
17. Actively support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing initiatives
Health, Safety & Compliance
18. Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental standards, including PPE and fire safety protocols
19. Maintain a clean, organised, and compliant working environment
Required skills, qualifications and experience
20. Strong background in welding, fabrication, or metalworking
21. Experience operating CNC, PLC, or robotic manufacturing systems
22. Working knowledge of ABB RAPID programming or similar control systems
23. Solid understanding of arc welding fundamentals and basic metallurgy
24. Excellent attention to detail, with strong visual inspection capability
25. Proactive, methodical approach to problem-solving and troubleshooting
26. Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Preferred Experience
27. Experience with WAAM, robotic welding, or additive manufacturing processes
28. Familiarity with ISO 9001 / AS9100 quality standards
29. Exposure to process monitoring, data logging, or digital manufacturing systems
30. 2–5 years’ experience in industrial manufacturing or fabrication
