Consultant in Oncology - PERM - East Midlands
Triple West Medical has been appointed by an NHS Trust in the East Midlands to recruit a substantive Consultant in Oncology.
The Trust, one of the largest employers in the region with over 12,000 staff, offers a friendly and supportive department providing comprehensive services across the region.
The Chemotherapy facility features a state-of-the-art Day Unit with 24 outpatient chemotherapy chairs, two 2-bedded siderooms, and four counselling/clinic rooms. Chemotherapy is prepared in a satellite pharmacy within the unit. Experienced chemotherapy nurses, skilled in cannulation and administering chemotherapy, provide treatment.
The facility also includes a dedicated Chemotherapy Unit with 18 outpatient chairs, two side-rooms for assessing and treating unwell patients, and seven integrated counselling/clinic rooms. The Oncology service is supported by a well-established Haematology Service, Palliative Medicine, Clinical Psychologists, interpreters, and bereavement support staff. Radiotherapy, Brachytherapy, and Radiotherapy Physics are housed in a new purpose-built centre.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Provision of a comprehensive clinical oncology service to the NHS Trust and surrounding areas, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness, ensuring proper departmental functioning.
2. Responsibility for the ongoing care and treatment of patients, performing clinical duties as per your job plan, with proper delegation and staff training.
3. Provision of an out-of-hours service with Consultant colleagues, including a 1:12 on-call rota.
4. Cover for colleagues during leave, including patient care and supervision of junior doctors.
5. Supervision, training, and management of junior medical staff, including teaching, examinations, and contributing to postgraduate and continuing medical education.
6. Implementation of Infection Control Policies as per Trust guidelines.
7. Participation in clinical audits and research activities, including NCRN trials, with support for research interests.
8. Participation in the annual appraisal process, coordinated by the Assistant Clinical Director for Oncology.
