Sales Director – Build and Lead the National Sales Operation

📍 Location: UK (Hybrid)

🕒 Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

💰 Salary: £30,000–£50,000 during probation (6 months), rising to £100,000 base on hitting target + uncapped commission

📈 Estimated Year 1 Earnings (if targets met): £145,000 – £160,000+

We’re known for stepping into complex, high-pressure projects where others fail, delivering high-quality work with speed and precision. Now, we’re building a sales department to match the strength of our operations and looking for the right leader to build it from the ground up.


About the Role

You will be the first sales hire, owning the sales function end-to-end: from generating leads, quoting, negotiating, and closing deals, to designing and building a scalable sales team and strategy. This is a hands-on, performance-led role for someone who wants to build a high-performance department, not inherit one.


Key Responsibilities
* Own the full sales cycle: generate leads, quote, negotiate, and close deals
* Develop and execute a national sales strategy targeting fabricators, developers, and contractors
* Build and lead a team of Regional Sales Managers and BD Execs once targets are hit
* Oversee quoting, forecasting, CRM (Capsule) reporting
* Represent Sparrow at key client meetings, tenders, and industry events
* Work with the MD on pricing, margin, and delivery strategies


Compensation & Bonus Plan

💰 Base salary:

* £30K–£50K during probation (6 months)
* On hitting your net margin probation target: increase to £100K base, with back pay of the difference

💰 Commission:

* 5% commission on the net profit of all projects where you’re directly involved, start-to-finish (or act as closer)
* 0.5% fallback commission on the net profit of department-wide projects where you had no direct involvement
* Net profit = project value minus direct costs (materials, labour, plant, subcontractors), validated post-completion
* Commission is paid quarterly after profit validation

🎯 Quarterly Performance Bonuses:

* £1,000 for securing 2+ new key accounts (£100K+ spend each in same quarter)
* £2,500 for securing 25% of the annual personal sales target
* £4,000 if the department hits 25% of the annual revenue target
* Max per quarter: £7,500 / £30,000 annually

🎯 Annual Bonuses:

* £5,000 for hitting personal annual sales target
* £5,000 for hitting the department-wide annual target
* £5,000 for achieving 30 %+ average profit margin across all projects
* £2,000 for successfully hiring and onboarding 2+ sales team members
* Max annual bonus: £17,000

🎯 Loyalty Bonus:

* £30,000 one-off payment after 24 months if you achieve £ 6 M+ in revenue and build an independent team capable of operating with minimal MD oversight

💡 Estimated Year 1 Earnings (if targets met): £145K – £ 160 K+


Targets

In this role, we expect the following as a foundation for building and scaling our national sales function:

* 3 months:
* £50K–£60K net margin → equivalent revenue: £250K–£300K
* (Focus: early wins, quick-turn jobs to build momentum)
* 6 months:
* £150K–£200K net margin → equivalent revenue: £750K–£1M
* (Focus: probation target hit, trigger salary uplift, plan team build)
* 12 months:
* £400K–£500K net margin → equivalent revenue: £2M–£2.5M
* (Focus: secure mid-large projects, expand client base, start scaling team)
* 24 months:
* £1.2M–£1.5M net margin → equivalent revenue: £6M–£7.5M
* (Focus: mature pipeline, fully functional sales team operating independently)

👉 At an average net margin of 20%, these targets represent annual revenue of £2M–£2.5M in year one, growing to £6M–£7.5M by year two.

* 5+ years of senior sales experience in construction, façades, or building envelope
* Proven deal closer, able to win mid-large B2B projects
* Strategic thinker who thrives on building from scratch
* Commercially sharp: strong margin control, quoting, negotiation
* Fluent in CRM, reporting, and forecasting
* Entrepreneurial mindset — wants ownership, not just a job
