Location: University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham UK.
Full‑time, Permanent (Grade 6). Salary range: £33,002 to £35,608, potential progression to £39,906.

Role Summary
Food and Beverage Cluster Manager overseeing operations across a group of outlets and functions, leading teams to deliver exceptional customer service, manage financial performance and promote growth.
Main Duties
Deliver operating standards, pass audits, maintain sales, cost and profit control, and meet budget expectations.
Leadership
* Provide day‑to‑day leadership for operational activities with a focus on efficiency and quality of service.
* Anticipate service shape, advise senior managers on improvements, drawing on current catering trends.
* Respond promptly to customer feedback and ensure service provision remains responsive.
* Contribute to broader service improvements.
Safe Ways of Working
* Ensure operations are managed safely, including:
o Consistent delivery of food and beverage standards meeting all legal requirements.
o Compliance of alcohol service with relevant laws.
o Adherence to work rules, codes of practice, and Health and Safety provisions.
Business Planning
* Deliver business processes, people, and resources within operational area.
* Review operations regularly to optimise efficiency and effectiveness.
* Act on actions derived from customer feedback.
People Management
* Oversee teams, ensuring managers adhere to policy and procedure.
* Develop organisational capability through staff objectives.
* Provide training, deliver some yourself, and coordinate through managers.
* Conduct job chats and performance reviews of direct reports.
* Implement HR policies on absence and performance management.
Financial Management
* Lead sales planning and cost control.
* Contribute to budget development and ensure delivery.
* Analyse monthly stocktakes to meet Gross Profit targets.
* Ensure timely, budget‑constrained event delivery.
* Ensure accurate cash handling and system functions.
* Adhere to University financial policies and procedures.
* Use University systems such as New Core / Pelican.
General
* Deputise for your Manager as required.
* Promote equality, diversity, and an inclusive working culture.
Operational Requirements
* Contract hours will suit business needs, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, based on a notional 37.5‑hour week.
* Participate in the Duty Manager rota, providing 24/7 coverage.
* Undertake work across UoB campuses as requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
* Degree level education in hospitality or significant management experience in a commercial food service.
* Literacy and numeracy skills with GCSE Maths grade C or equivalent.
* Current Food Safety Level 4 qualification.
* Excellent people‑management skills and motivation of staff.
* Full, clean driving licence.
* Current Personal Licence holder for alcohol sales, or willingness to obtain.
* Ability to plan, organise, and develop sales and service plans.
* Flexible approach to manage staff across various shift patterns.
* Health and Safety Level 3 qualification plus knowledge of HACCP, COSHH, waste disposal, and fire procedures.
* Proficient IT skills, especially Microsoft Office and ability to learn in‑house systems.
* Clear, concise communication with managers, staff, and customers.
* Team‑player attitude, able to work under pressure and meet timelines.
* Knowledge of Equality Act 2010 and proactive fair treatment of protected characteristics.
