Residential Care Worker
Location: Hamilton, Bermuda
Job Summary: Assist residents with daily routines, domestic duties, and monitoring of client activities while respecting the Salvation Army’s mission.
Accountabilities
* Perform a wide range of duties as assigned.
* Ensure safety and protection of all residents/clients/guests within Harbour Light.
* Interact with support staff, administration, and counseling team.
* Use building safety alarms, panic buttons, and door security as required.
* Make and document regular room checks, client counts, and general monitoring.
* Oversee the Harbour Light building.
* Ensure residents attend internal and external meetings.
* Escort and supervise residents for external activities, events, functions, etc.
* Support residents and the facility throughout the shift.
* Perform other work‑related duties as assigned.
Rationale for Residential Care Worker Designation
The designation adopted in December 2001 allows employees to focus on their role and expectations while working with residents. The Residential Care Worker is part of the "Caring Team" and is responsible for assisting clients in their recovery program, not acting as policemen or security guards.
Critical Relationship Management
* Communicate with guests/clients of Harbour Light.
* Communicate with staff and volunteers in the building.

* Internal: Clients in Harbour Light, all staff, volunteers.
* External: Community members, organizations, police, agencies.
Managerial / Technical Leadership Responsibility
* Reports directly to Immediate Supervisor.
* No direct reports.
* May demonstrate procedures to others.
Financial and Materials Management
* Involved in financial transactions per Salvation Army policies.
* May make small program purchases under supervisor authority.
* No input into annual budget.
* All funds handled must be documented, sealed, signed, and placed in the mailbox.
Working Conditions
* Residential setting.
* Isolation, dealing with angry or abusive individuals, lifestyle‑impacting schedule.
* Exposure to bodily fluids, drugs, alcohol.
* Local travel; moderate physical exertion; lifting up to 30 pounds.
* Continuous monitoring of environment; interaction with clients; attentive listening.

* First Aid/CPR certification.
* Criminal Police Investigation Check.
* Non‑violent crisis intervention training.
Working Hours
12‑hour shifts; 7:00 pm–7:00 am or 7:00 am–7:00 pm, including public holidays.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications
* High‑school graduate with administrative, organizational, and communication skills.
* Alternative education or experience may be considered.
* Background checks per Salvation Army discretion.
* Intermediate driver’s license with Community Service Certification.
* CPR, First Aid, and Non‑Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete.
* Experience in social field is an asset.
* WHMIS training.
* Understanding and support of mission and purpose.
* Compliance with OH&S Act and health and safety policies.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
* Up to one year related experience, including frontline work in a social service setting.

Compensation
BD$17.13 to BD$20.08 per hour, up to a maximum of BD$24.10. Salary based on market conditions, internal equity, and qualifications.
