Job overview

We are seeking a motivated and strong leader to join our team as a Senior Midwife Ward Leader. The ideal candidate will be approachable and possess the drive to achieve the highest standards of clinical excellence, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe care within the ward. This role involves supporting the Matron and working collaboratively as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to foster a positive, patient-centred environment. Main duties of the job

* To be responsible for the management and clinical leadership of the midwifery services on the inpatient areas.
* To be accountable for ensuring the highest standard of clinical care is provided in inpatient areas.
* To be easily identifiable to patients, providing strong, visible leadership and have the appropriate level of authority to provide support, advice and assistance required by women and their families.

Person specification


Education and Qualifications

* Practising Midwife
* NMC registered
* Evidence of continuous professional development
* First degree or evidence of working towards one (demonstrating graduate attributes)


Experience

* Significant post registration experience Extensively working across organisational boundaries and ability to work within a multi-agency framework
* Significant experience of working with families.
* Experience of team leadership
* Experience in managing change
* Experience of audit, monitoring and evaluating local policies.


Skills and Knowledge

* Understanding of professional and personal accountability in line with the Code of Professional Conduct and scope of professional practice
* In-depth knowledge of postnatal care in line with the department of health and NICE guidance
* Clear knowledge and understanding of partnership working to ensure a streamlined postnatal service from hospital to community
* Highly developed communication /presentation and reporting skills (written and verbal)
* Ability to write complex and detailed reports
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multi-agency team
* Ability to effectively negotiate, influence and motivate
* Ability to use a range of IT packages
* Highly developed organisational /time management skills and ability to prioritise own work
* Understanding of the NHS structure policy and regional priorities
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance and implications for practice relating postnatal and antenatal care


Personal Qualities

* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Ability to make appropriate decisions at all levels
* Flexible approach to work
