Job Title: Ward Clerk
Location: John Radcliffe Hospital, Headley Way, Oxford, OX3 9DU
Hours: 37 hours per week – 5 shifts across 7 days – Ideally candidates can work a mixture of days and nights but all hours preferences will be taken into consideration
Trust Location: Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Role type: Temporary for 2 months with possibility of extension
What you’ll be responsible for:
* Act as a first point of contact in person or on the telephone for patients, relatives and visiting staff, welcoming them to the ward and dealing with any queries, including those relating to admission, discharge, visiting times, claiming expenses, accommodation, insurance and parking
* Monitor who has access to the ward to ensure that safeguarding policies &
procedures are adhered to.
* Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clinical and managerial
staff within the ward
* Communicate sensitively & tactfully with patients & families to deliver sensitive
information whilst overcoming barriers to understanding
* Book and track medical records. Maintaining an organised and up-to-date filing system of notes using the ward trolley, ensuring that all medical records are in order before leaving the ward.
* Ensure all patient records are correct. Collect personal and confidential information
from patients or relatives in order to complete the admissions process including
assignment to correct consultant/midwife; and ensure patient admissions, discharges and transfers are recorded in a timely manner on the patient administration system
This role may require you to show evidence of vocational level 3 qualification or at least 2 years relevant experience.
You’ll learn the following whilst working at the trust:
1. An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS
2. Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times
3. A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation
You’ll have the following skills/experience:
* Administration experience
* Strong attention to detail
* NHS experience (desirable)
* Excellent customer service skills especially face to face
* Competent with Microsoft office programmes
