Job Summary

As an Assistant Area Inspector, you will support the inspection and management of highways issues, helping to ensure that customer enquiries are resolved and that maintenance activities meet required standards. You'll work closely with Area Inspectors, customers, partners, and contractors across your allocated area. Updating asset information and working with others to deliver a strong Highways network.


Key Responsibilities

* Carry out inspections and respond to Fix My Street and other enquiries within agreed standards and timescales.
* Raise accurate works orders in line with the Highways Specification and Safety Inspection Policy.
* Support routine safety inspections and ensure compliance with CDM and health & safety requirements.
* Assist in resolving local issues by liaising with customers, stakeholders, towns, parishes and local members.
* Promote Fix My Street and support customer communication, ensuring outcomes are monitored and recorded.
* Assist with enforcement evidence, green claims and post‑completion audits of completed works.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues, partners and third‑party organisations to support effective service delivery.
* Use asset management and works ordering systems effectively and provide resilience within the team.


Candidate Profile

We're looking for a confident and proactive new starter that wants to grow with our service and develop their career in Highways service. A quick learner with a keen eye for assisting our teams improving the lives of Buckinghamshire residents. You should have the ability to work collaboratively, have a keen ethic for learning new skills and working as a team to manage issues with full training on the ground. As well as represent the service with credibility with assisting customers & stakeholders correspondence. If you're motivated, solutions‑focused, and ready to make a tangible difference to Buckinghamshire's highway network, and are keen for a new challenge or just starting out in your career then we would love to hear from you.


The Communities Directorate

Our Communities directorate works across the county to deliver a number of the key customer‑facing services that our residents, businesses and visitors rely on every day.

This directorate includes a wide range of services, including:

* Collecting and disposing of waste and recycling.
* Maintaining our roads and Rights of Way network and parking.
* Ensuring the delivery of school transport, and supporting sustainable travel including public bus services and School Crossing Patrollers.
* Managing Country Parks.
* Leisure facilities, museums, theatres and libraries, as well as developing our Cultural Strategy.
* Licensing, Environmental Health and Trading Standards.
* Cemeteries and Crematoria.
