Join us at RWE Offshore Wind for an apprenticeship within our Offshore Operations Controlling team and gain invaluable insight into this truly unique and innovative sector. We’re one of the largest developers of offshore wind globally and we’re on a journey of growth.
We’re a global team so this is a great opportunity to explore different business cultures, but you’ll be based at our Coventry site, ensuring you are fully integrated into our community with a chance to see up close how your work is making a difference. Some travel to our Gwynt y Mor site in Wales will be required, potentially 2 days (1 overnight stay) every 2 weeks.
This 4-year Apprenticeship is designed to support the delivery of effective financial control, reporting, and analysis within the finance function. The role contributes to the operation and improvement of controlling, accounting and finance processes that support decision‑making, compliance, and value protection, while developing the technical, analytical, and professional skills required for a future finance management role.
The apprenticeship follows the UK apprenticeship model with approximately 20% off-the-job learning delivered by an accredited training provider and 80% structured on-the-job learning within RWE teams.
Upon completion, the apprentice will achieve BSc (Hons) Accounting & Finance Manager, Level 6 Accounting & Finance Manager Degree Apprenticeship.
Key Responsibilities
1. Support operational planning, budgeting, forecasting, and monthly financial reporting activities.
2. Assist with monitoring financial and operational performance, including analysis of variances and key performance indicators.
3. Produce accurate financial information to support decision‑making by finance colleagues, operations teams, and management.
4. Contribute to the maintenance of effective financial controls, ensuring compliance with internal processes, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
5. Support month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end activities, including reconciliations and data validation.
6. Work with internal stakeholders across finance, operations, and wider business functions to understand cost drivers and financial performance.
7. Assist with the development, standardisation, and improvement of finance systems, reports, and processes.
8. Some travel will be required to visit other UK sites and offices, as well as occasional travel globally.
Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
9. Developing knowledge of accounting, finance, and controlling principles, supported through formal apprenticeship study.
10. Strong numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present financial information clearly.
11. Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and data integrity.
12. Effective communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
13. Proactive, well organised, and willing to learn, with the ability to work independently while contributing to team objectives.
14. Ability to use financial systems and standard office tools to support reporting and analysis.
15. Entry Requirements: 104 UCAS points or equivalent
Development and Progression
The Apprentice Controller role provides structured development across technical, technological, and interpersonal skills, preparing the individual to progress toward a fully‑fledged controller or accounting and finance management role through continued professional study and on‑the‑job experience.
Starting salary of £25,000 during year 1 and increasing throughout the program.
