About the Electoral Commission
The Electoral Commission is the UK’s independent body overseeing elections and regulating political finance. Everything we do is about ensuring trust, participation, and integrity in the democratic process.
As we enter a bold new chapter under our five-year Corporate Plan, we are increasing our workforce and transforming how we plan and deliver core services. This post plays a central role in that journey.
About the role
You will lead and deliver proactive regulatory engagement with political parties, campaigners and other regulated entities. The role focuses on strengthening understanding of political finance rules, improving compliance outcomes and building trust and confidence in the regulatory framework. It is an exciting role that plays a central part in the Commission’s regulatory support offer.
You will combine strategic planning with hands‑on delivery, ensuring regulatory engagement and support activity is aligned with the Commission’s guidance, regulatory priorities and risk assessments. A key aspect of the role is leading, managing and developing a team of regulatory support advisers, while working collaboratively across the Commission to share intelligence, learning and good practice.
Key responsibilities
* Leading proactive, risk-based regulatory support and focused compliance activity to improve adherence to political finance rules.
* Building and maintaining strong relationships with political parties, campaigners and regulatory stakeholders.
* Coordinating and delivering high-quality engagement activities, including bespoke training packages and events, workshops, forums and targeted outreach.
* Monitoring feedback, stakeholder interactions and emerging issues to inform continuous improvement of support tools and interventions.
* Managing and developing a small team, providing clear direction, performance management and professional development.
About the team
You will join the Regulatory Support team within the Electoral Administration and Regulation directorate. The team plays a critical role in helping regulated entities understand and meet their legal obligations through clear guidance, engagement and proactive support.
We are a collaborative, inclusive and improvement-focused team, committed to delivering high-quality services that are proportionate, consistent and risk-based. Team members are encouraged to share learning, innovate and work closely with colleagues across the Commission, making this an engaging and supportive environment in which to develop your career.
Who we’re looking for
This role would suit someone who is confident working within complex regulatory or legal frameworks and who enjoys engaging with a wide range of external stakeholders. You will be an experienced people manager with strong judgement, excellent communication skills and a practical, solutions-focused approach.

* Experience of political finance regulation or working within complex legal or regulatory frameworks.
* Experience of leading, managing and developing staff or small teams.
* A proven track record of building and managing effective external stakeholder relationships.
* Experience of delivering guidance, training or advisory services to varied audiences.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
* Juggle priorities with ease – planning and organising your time to meet multiple deadlines without compromising quality.
Experience of managing change or contributing to improvement initiatives would be an advantage.
