A locum position for 12 months has arisen to work in one of the largest Women’s Health Services in Scotland. NHS Lanarkshire is seeking to recruit two skilled and dynamic consultants to join our award‑winning Obstetrics and Gynaecology team. We are conveniently located in central Scotland with ready access to Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as to the Highlands of Scotland and the Borders.

The vacancy is based at University Hospital Wishaw, which provides all inpatient obstetric and gynaecological care for the population of Lanarkshire. Maternity day care services are also provided at University Hospitals Hairmyres and Monklands, and antenatal care is provided at a large number of community health centres throughout the county. There are approximately 4,100 deliveries per year in the maternity unit and you will join a team of 12 consultant obstetricians.

The post will have obstetric‑only components. The precise job plans will be tailored to the skills of the successful applicants.


Responsibilities and Scope

Proposals for additional SPA time from applicants are encouraged. In addition to the one PA for Non‑DCC/SPA activities, the board is supportive of applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well‑developed ideas for improving services who can demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), medical education, research & development, acting as an appraiser, etc. Applicants who are able to demonstrate a commitment to any of the above or other areas and wish to commence on more than one PA for SPA duties should discuss proposals with the identified recruitment lead and/or service manager, who will consider the request in line with the successful candidate’s professional and service requirements.

Applicants should also demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), medical education and research & development.
