Communication Support Worker

Salary: £28,046 - £32,010 (pro-rata for part-time and sessional)
Hours: 36 per week, 39 weeks sessional
Part-time hours will be considered.
Communication Support Workers will provide bespoke communication support to deaf children and young people, some with complex additional support needs, in educational settings. This may include interpreting and translating in British Sign Language (BSL) and/or other communication methods such as English, Sign-Supported English, lip speaking, and scribing/note-taking. They will also use Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices and strategies to support inclusive communication.
Post holders will assist teaching and support staff to ensure deaf pupils can access the curriculum fully and achieve their best learning outcomes. They will advise staff on adapting learning materials, using equipment and ICT where appropriate. They will facilitate communication with peers and promote deaf awareness within the school community.
The role involves working across various settings in the city, including Nursery, Primary, Secondary, and Special schools. Applicants must be willing to work anywhere in the city as required.
Applicants should hold Level 3/SCQF Level 6 in British Sign Language or demonstrate equivalent skills and experience. A BSL skills test will be part of the interview process.
This post involves regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The successful candidate will need to join the PVG Scheme or undergo an update check. If the applicant has spent three or more months outside the UK in the last five years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory clearance of these checks.
