We're seeking a creative and organised Communications Officer to lead media and press relations, digital content, and promotional activities for COMPAS. You'll manage website updates, newsletters, social media, blogs, podcasts, and event communications, ensuring a professional and consistent presence across all channels.
The position is set to commence on 29 September 2025 and will be full-time for an initial duration of 12 weeks with a pay rate of £18.80 per hour + holiday pay
Key Responsibilities:
* Undertake media and press relations for COMPAS, ensuring that established protocols and sign-off procedures are adhered to, liaising with senior staff and the University Public Affairs Directorate Office (PAD) as necessary
* Create, proof-read and publish website updates, newsletters, and social media for COMPAS and its projects, overseeing and ensuring a coherent digital presence
* Coordinate and edit blogs, articles, video uploads and news stories
* Use design software to create promotional materials, following brand guidelines, for both print and digital publications
* Plan and share both internal and external communications materials
* Support management production and promotion of the Migration Oxford podcast series
* Work to ensure communications activities are properly monitored and evaluated
* Support and ensure COMPAS' compliance with GDPR, accessibility and any other regulations relating to communications activities
* Maintain and update staff, student, affiliate and visitor lists, mailing lists and/or contact databases
* Coordinate the organisation and logistics of COMPAS communications events, for example public seminars, breakfast briefings, screenings and lead on the communication for other events in conjunction with the Administrator or Project Lead
* Manage the allocation of COMPAS communications resources in research projects and partnerships
* Participate in the University's Communication Officers network and the Social Sciences Division Communications Officers network
Selection Criteria:
* Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience
* Communications experience in traditional and/or digital/social media, including experience in producing effective web content and writing for digital media
* Experience of using digital production tools and ability to learn quickly relevant tools
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills, applicable to a range of academic and non-academic audiences
* Excellent attention to detail, editing skills and proof-reading skills
* Good administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently to deadlines and to solve problems independently
* Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work with colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds and to build good working relationships
* Understanding of (or willingness to undertake relevant training in) relevant legislation (GDPR, Web Accessibility, etc.) and its application
* Proficiency working with a range of software applications (including Microsoft, Google, Creative Cloud suites), including website content management systems
* Competent in using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, databases, and email.
