Job overview

The community chronic pain service supports people with chronic pain to achieve long-term self-management, empowering people to live well. The post holder will take a lead role within the service, demonstrating highly specialised clinical practice across the 4 pillars of advance practice and leading the delivery of clinical care within Kent Prisons.

Main duties of the job

This patient facing clinical role includes direct patient care in community clinics and secure settings and supporting others within the service. In liaison with the clinical lead and clinical service managers they will be expected to initiate, develop and implement community policies and clinical guidelines to achieve the service key objectives. The post holder provides clinical leadership to the Integrated Musculoskeletal service team working within the secure environment.

Due to the need to work across multiple localities on the same day the post holder must be a driver with access to a car.

Please note: at this stage, the role is open only to colleagues currently employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts and the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB). Nursing vacancies are also open to Student Nurses and Newly Qualified Nurses.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. NMC or HCPC registered healthcare professional
2. Relevant 1st Degree
3. MSc in pain management
4. NMC/AHP recorded Independent Prescriber
5. RCGP Addiction/Substance Misuse training

Desirable criteria

6. Counselling Skills

Experience

Essential criteria

7. Extensive postgraduate clinical experience
8. Delivering health care in secure environments
9. Significant Pain Management or related experience at Band 7
10. Experience in working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
11. Demonstrable experience in clinical leadership including training others and managing change at service level

Desirable criteria

12. Budget management and business planning
13. Research experience
14. Evidence of managing complex medication issues
15. Presentations at National level

Knowledge

Essential criteria

16. Demonstrates expert knowledge and skills regarding the principles of pain management.
17. Key issues and developments in chronic pain management both nationally and internationally
18. Key issues in delivering healthcare in secure settings
19. Knowledge of current NHS issues and initiatives and their implications for the chronic pain service.

20. High standard of clinical skills demonstrating complex analysis and judgement.
21. Expert teaching skills (informal & formal) and leading through empowerment, role modelling to inspire others
22. Expert communication skills, including use of information technology, report writing and presentation skills
