Role Overview
If you are a natural leader and people manager with a passion for sustainability and the refuse/recycling industry, we’d love to hear from you! We are entering exciting times in waste collections, with separate food collections and Simpler Recycling coming shortly, where we will be collecting a wider range of recyclable materials. The role will see you working alongside other Team Leaders to deliver a great waste collection service from our depot based in Blyth. This is a permanent, full-time position.
Normal working week: Monday to Thursday, with early mornings, occasional evenings, weekend, emergency call‑out work and Bank Holiday working. Standby or call‑out arrangements may apply.
Responsibilities
* Assist in determining the most effective deployment of staff and vehicles to ensure that refuse collection and recycling services for household, industrial and commercial waste in a designated area are completed within the agreed time, quality and specified service standards.
* Contribute to the induction, risk assessment, training and development of front‑line staff, acting as coach and mentor as necessary.
* Receive service requests via administrative support staff and using agreed practices and procedures schedule refuse collection rounds for bulky waste, garden waste and servicing of recycling centres to ensure the smooth & efficient delivery of these services in accordance with quality and customer care standards.
* Promote and maintain a positive relationship with front‑line staff to develop a climate of harmonious and constructive employee relations.
Qualifications
* Qualified to drive our fleet – hold a Class 2 licence and have experience of driving large heavy goods vehicles with no historical driving convictions.
* Knowledge of the legislation and regulations relating to driving HGVs and an awareness of Health & Safety legislation and its application to waste services. Desirable to have previous experience of in‑cab technology, but not essential as full training will be given.
* Hardworking, physically fit and healthy due to the nature of the business.
* May be required to assist the collection crews; have the strength, dexterity and coordination to manoeuvre bins and operate hydraulics and the specialist skills associated with the operation of hydraulic equipment.
* Required to undertake and complete all personal development and training to obtain skills for the role, such as waste acceptance, maintenance of site equipment, infrastructure and the operation of site machinery.
* Willing to go the extra mile whilst leading the team, supporting collection rounds and hold plenty of enthusiasm and a big smile.
