Pay: £101.40 per day
Location: Maidenhead
Start Date: 12th January 2026
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:45pm, term time only
Training: Full education, training, and CPD provided

This Graduate Learning Support Assistant role is ideal for an aspiring psychologist seeking hands-on experience within a specialist autism school. You will be supporting children and young people with autism in a setting specifically designed to meet their needs, with a strong focus on structure, routine, communication, and emotional regulation.

The school provides a calm, nurturing, and highly personalised learning environment, using evidence-based, autism-specific strategies to support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development. Education and Training

A Learning Support Assistant role within an autism-specialist school offers the opportunity to:
• Support autistic pupils on an individual and small-group basis, developing a deep understanding of neurodiversity
• Learn and apply autism-specific approaches such as visual timetables, structured routines, sensory strategies, and communication support
• Observe psychological and behavioural principles in practice, including emotional regulation, behaviour support, and trauma-informed approaches
• Work closely with teachers, therapists, and multidisciplinary professionals, gaining insight into holistic and collaborative interventions
• Develop essential skills including observation, data collection, rapport-building, reflective practice, and professional communication
• Make a meaningful impact on pupils’ independence, confidence, wellbeing, and engagement with learning

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
• A strong academic background in psychology or a related discipline, with a clear interest in autism and child development
• Experience supporting children or young people in education, care, or similar settings (desirable but not essential)
• A patient, empathetic, and calm approach when supporting pupils with additional needs
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with pupils who may experience social or communication challenges
• A genuine commitment to helping learners progress at their own pace
• A proactive, reflective attitude and willingness to learn within a specialist setting
