Birmingham Children's Hospital Oncology Department has an exciting opportunity to recruit a full time, 12 mont h Locum Consultant Paediatric Oncologist. We are seeking candidates with an existing interest in solid tumours and late effects of childhood cancer. Birmingham Children's Hospital is one of the largest dedicated children's cancer centres in the UK, receiving over 250 new referrals each year; approximately 10% of UK childhood malignancies.
This post will join the existing team of 5.9 WTE NHS consultant oncologists, 3 academic colleagues (1 Professorial appointments and 2 Associate professors), 1 part-time honorary NHS consultant and a 0.6 WTE Specialty Doctor. The existing Oncology teams provides the full range of tertiary oncology services and have sub-specialty interest in neuro-oncology, general solid tumour oncology, TYA oncology, late-effects and retinoblastoma covering an extensive geographical area. We are a research active department with a large clinical trial portfolio and with strong links with the University of Birmingham and the Birmingham CRUK Clinical Trials Unit, in addition to a varied research portfolio including one of only 3 specialists children's cancer registries in the UK.

The post-holder will oversee the day-to-day management of in-patients through participation in the departmental weekly "on-service" and out-of-hours rota along with undertaking regular outpatient clinics and attendance at appropriate MDT's. There will be a liaison role with the well-established Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Units (POSCU's). The successful candidate will be eligible for inclusion on the specialist register for Paediatric Oncology or be within 6 months of completion of higher specialist training or equivalent.
