Managing Consultant


Alvarium Talent is partnering with a fast-growing, independent management consultancy that specialises in helping organisations solve complex problemsand deliver meaningful transformation.


The firm works with a diverse client base including multinational organisations, scale- ups, private equity-backed businesses, and not-for-profits, supporting them in navigating complex strategic and operational challenges. With a London base and an international presence, the firm brings together experienced consultants who combine strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. Teams often work closely alongside client organisations, helpingto shape and deliver transformation initiatives across areas such as business change, programme delivery, technology transformation, and organisational improvement.

Role purpose


The Managing Consultant role is a senior delivery and leadership position. The role exists tolead high quality client engagements, shape pragmatic and impactful solutions, and strengthen the consulting capability through team leadership, coaching, and contribution to internal development.

Managing Consultants are trusted to operate with a high degree of autonomy, balancing client outcomes, commercial responsibility, and people leadership. They play a critical role in translating our client’s values into day to day delivery standards and team behaviours.


Core accountabilities


Managing Consultants are accountable for the following outcomes.


Client delivery and engagement ownership

* Own the successful delivery of client engagements or defined workstreams, ensuring outcomes meet agreed objectives, timelines, and quality expectations
* Act as a primary day to day client contact, building trusted relationships and managing stakeholder expectations effectively
* Shape solutions in partnership with clients, applying judgement to tailor approaches rather than relying on generic methodologies
* Identify delivery risks early and take responsibility for resolution, escalating appropriately where required


Commercial and delivery discipline

* Manage engagement level delivery economics, including scope, effort, and resourcing within agreed parameters
* Contribute to proposals, scoping activity, and commercial discussions where appropriate
* Balance quality, pace, and pragmatism in line with the consulting model


Team leadership and capability development

* Lead small consulting teams on clientengagements, setting clear direction, expectations, and ways of working
* Coach and develop consultants through feedback, role modelling, and on the jobsupport
* Contribute to performance discussions and capability assessments for team members
* Create an inclusive and psychologically safe environment that supports learning and high performance


Core competencies and capability experience


This role is typically suited to individuals with around five to six years of consulting experience, though progression is based on capability and readiness rather than tenure alone.


Managing Consultants are expected to demonstrate the following capabilities.

* Strong general management consulting capability, with the ability to flex across projectand programme delivery,change initiatives, and technology enabled transformation
* Well developed consulting fundamentals including structured problem solving, meeting facilitation, stakeholder management, data informed decision making, and clear written and visual communication
* Confidence operating in client environments with senior stakeholders
* The ability to lead others and take responsibility for outcomes, not just activity
* Curiosity, ambition, and comfort working in a growing and evolving consulting business

Success in the ManagingConsultant role is demonstrated through

* Consistently strong client outcomes and feedback
* Reliable delivery against scope, quality, and timelines
* Effective leadership and development of consulting colleagues
* Constructive contribution to the team’s internal capability and culture
* Demonstration of sound judgement, ownership, and professionalism
