PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £60,000 - £70,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. Purpose of the role: The BBC Youth Audiences team is looking for a YouTube Factual Editor to help grow the BBC's impact on YouTube with factual storytelling designed for 16-24 y/o audiences. In this role you'll lead the editorial vision, oversee publishing, and shape new digital-first formats - working with internal stakeholders and independent producers to make the BBC's factual storytelling thrive on YouTube. You'll combine editorial rigour with creative flair, ensuring content feels relevant and engaging while upholding the BBC's values of impartiality and trust. The role sits in BBC Content and reports to the Executive Producer - Digital Innovation, Gaming & Creator Content.
Responsibilities and impact
* Lead the editorial strategy and publishing plan for factual content on YouTube.
* Manage a small publishing team delivering long-form videos, Shorts and compilations each week.
* Define and maintain the tone, look and rhythm of the output, ensuring consistency and clarity.
* Collaborate with BBC Three, Documentaries, Current Affairs, Nations and BBC News to adapt and optimise content for digital audiences.
* Commission original digital-first formats from independent production companies, shaping briefs and overseeing delivery.
* Work with rights, legal and compliance teams to navigate editorial challenges and secure publishing approvals.
* Use YouTube analytics and insights to refine scheduling, packaging and growth strategy.
* Share performance learnings with social and marketing colleagues to support audience development.
* Act as the editorial lead for factual YouTube publishing in internal and external settings, championing younger audiences throughout.
Requirements
* Strong editorial background with experience of adhering to legal and regulatory rules (experience in news or current affairs is a plus).
* Proven YouTube expertise: publishing, optimisation, metadata, thumbnails, Shorts, watch-time and retention.
* Experience commissioning or managing youth content with independent production companies.
* Ability to lead and inspire a small team while also getting involved on day-to-day publishing.
* Solid understanding of rights, compliance and legal frameworks in factual content.
* Excellent communicator, comfortable working across departments and with external partners.
* Passion for creating content that's smart, honest and impactful for younger audiences.
* Familiarity with BBC Editorial Guidelines and a commitment to public service values.
