Job Description:


Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

The part-time Case Manager for Student Essentials and Family Support provides direct support services and targeted programming to promote the personal, academic, and professional success of TCC students. This college-wide role focuses on addressing basic needs challenges, with particular attention to parenting students and those experiencing food insecurity.
The Case Manager plays a vital role in closing resource gaps by connecting students to essential campus and community services, including childcare, food assistance, housing, transportation, and financial support. In addition to individualized case management, the Case Manager designs and facilitates holistic educational programs that foster student resilience, well-being, and engagement throughout their academic journey.
Functional Responsibilities:
1. Provide targeted outreach to students facing basic needs challenges with a focus on students experiencing food insecurity and parenting students.
2. Serve as a point of contact for students seeking support through the Single Stop program.
3. Conduct intake assessments and screenings to identify student needs related to food, housing, childcare, transportation, financial assistance, and other essential resources.
4. Work collaboratively with SREC Campus Case Managers to track all students whose Single Stop screenings indicate they are eligible for SNAP and other public benefits, providing follow up to ensure that students are connected to resources and supported through the application process.
5. Provide individualized case management, including follow-up and progress tracking, to ensure students successfully access and maximize campus and community resources.
6. Advocate for students navigating complex systems of support, including public benefits and institutional services.
7. Work with SREC Lead Case Manager to collaborate with internal departments and external partners to strengthen referral pathways and expand available resources.
8. Support the development and delivery of educational workshops and outreach initiatives focused on holistic student success, including financial literacy and resource awareness.
9. Work directly with students submitting requests for Student Emergency Assistance Funds, ensuring that applications are complete, documented according to college protocols, and submitted in a timely manner.
10. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student interactions, referrals, and outcomes in accordance with college protocols.
11. Support parenting students and other high-need populations through targeted outreach and programming.
12. Participate in training and professional development related to mental health, wellness, and student support services.
13. Contribute to the continuous improvement of case management practices and resource coordination across the college.
Minimum Qualifications:

14. Experience providing case management or student support services in a higher education setting.
15. A demonstrated understanding of food insecurity within a higher education student population.
16. A demonstrated understanding of the challenges of parenting students at the community college level.
17. Familiarity with public assistance programs (e.g., SNAP, TANF, Medicaid) and community-based resources.
18. Familiarity with campus-based service delivery models that address food insecurity.
19. Familiarity with the Single Stop platform as a screening and case management tool to assist students facing basic needs insecurities.
20. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and advocate effectively across student populations.
21. Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate documentation in a fast-paced environment.
22. Experience supporting the development and delivery of workshops or educational programming.
23. Cultural competence and sensitivity to the needs of economically and academically vulnerable students, including parenting students and adult learners.
24. Proficiency with Single Stop case management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and virtual communication tools.
