What you’ll be doing
As part of a technical team, you will review housing development plans and provide support and advice for housebuilders and their technical/design teams. Your technical input will cover NHBC Standards, primarily focusing on weather resistance, including checking design elements such as walls, roofs, cladding finishes, parapets, cavity trays, and basement waterproofing.
You will work with builder customers and their design teams to offer knowledge and technical advice on NHBC Standards, design codes, and other relevant areas to guide them toward compliant solutions acceptable to NHBC. You will also manage project coordination, including setting up inspection regimes to support inspectors and attending relevant meetings (possibly via Microsoft Teams).
This is a home-based role, offering flexibility and a good work/life balance. Travel to client sites and occasionally to our offices, including Milton Keynes, will be required.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading/supporting the management of NHBC’s technical and warranty risks on new build projects
* Reviewing and checking technical submissions for compliance
* Coordinating project inputs from specialists within the risk management team
* Engaging, influencing, and negotiating with developers and design teams
* Conducting limited site inspections to support inspectors, surveyors, and engineers
The ideal candidate will have
Experience in housebuilding and construction, with an interest in building failure mechanisms and pathology. You should have:
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
* A proactive, self-motivated approach
* At least three years of construction or housing experience involving technical building work
* A full UK driving license
Education and Qualifications
* Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., MCIOB, BEng) or working towards it
* Building/construction-related degree or equivalent (e.g., HNC/D diploma)
* Familiarity with IT systems and software
* Minimum GCSEs in Maths and English or equivalent
