Clinical Nurse Specialist Teenagers and Young Adults with Cancer

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Teenage Cancer Trust Clinical Liaison Nurse Specialist for Teenage and Young Adults with cancer at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust as a fixed term post until December 2026 to cover maternity leave. The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is a Designated Hospital for Teenage and Young Adults with cancer, and the successful post holder will work closely with the TYA Principal Treatment Centre, University Hospital Birmingham and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our team, someone with a high- level of relevant clinical knowledge and experience at cancer nursing. Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience of working with young people with a cancer diagnosis, experience of malignant haematology and / or oncology.


Main duties of the job

The role will be to provide support and advice for patients aged 13-24 years old and work alongside site specific oncology and haematology teams.

The post holder will be expected to continue to develop a high-quality service to young people with cancer. They will be required to work autonomously and collaboratively with key stakeholders within the Trust, Principal Treatment Centre, and wider cancer networks.

This post is funded by Teenage Cancer Trust. Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity providing funding for specialist healthcare professionals who care and support teenagers and young adults with cancer. The successful post holder will link into a national network of funded TYA cancer professionals, be able to access a range of learning and professional development opportunities, be involved in the work of Teenage Cancer Trust and link to other national and international professional bodies.

Job responsibilities

Participate in Primary Treatment Centre (PTC) TYA Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings ensuring that all TYAs are referred to this MDT. Work closely with the PTC TYA to ensure alignment of goals and priorities between national and local modernisation initiatives and ensure support and transition from children services to TYA and then to adult services. Work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team develop, implement and specialist nursing to a defined group of young people with cancer. Act as a keyworker; provide advice, education and support across the cancer pathway to young people, their families and carers. Assess young peoples needs and be accountable for delivering safe, effective clinical practice based on this assessment. Work with the Teenage Cancer Trust TYA Lead Nurse and others on the ongoing development of clinical practice, standards of care including the development of policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines. Lead on service developments in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues. Educate and support other for health and social care colleagues so they better understand the needs of teenagers and young people with cancer. Work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team develop, implement and specialist nursing to a defined group of young people with cancer. Act as a keyworker; provide advice, education and support across the cancer pathway to young people, their families and carers. Assess young peoples needs and be accountable for delivering safe, effective clinical practice based on this assessment. Work alongside the leadership team at the Principal Treatment Centre (PTC) at University Hospital Birmingham and establish links with TYA CNS working in other TYA Designated Centres Funded by Teenage Cancer Trust the post holder will promote and support their philosophy of care and strategic objectives. Provide reports and data. To be accountable for: Ensuring safe and effective clinical practice Enhancing the TYAs experience Ensuring effective contribution to the delivery of the organisations objectives Efficient and effective use of resources


Person Specification

* Experience in Oncology +/- Haematology cancer nursing
* Adult or paediatric trained
* minimal 3 years experience in Haem/Onc
* Working with teenagers and young adults with cancer
