Job Description
Reporting to the Transport Manager, the Assistant Transport Manager is responsible for the 24/7 Transport operations, managing the Transport Team and supporting the Transport Manager in ensuring that costs are controlled in line with budget / forecast expectations.
Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00.
Key Duties of an Assistant Transport Manager:
1. Manage the Depot Transport staff to execute Traffic plans to enable delivery of products to customers within agreed service levels
2. Reduce non contract maintenance and damage spends through the use of vehicle passports, daily confirmation of spend, in conjunction with other Culina depots
3. Ensure that all available fleet is on the road and declared to enable the Planning Team to plan the resource
4. Motivate and develop the team through engagement, training and personal development plans
5. Ensure all staff are fully trained and have the correct equipment
6. Ensure that the Transport team comply with all relevant statutes and regulations
7. Communicate with 3rd Party hauliers in regard to control of all reported defects on drop trailers left for pre loading
8. Check and approve maintenance cost reports and related invoices
9. Ensure annual MOTs and service intervals on all fleet equipment are carried out on time
10. Monitor, Audit and Control suppliers
11. Attend Monthly Customer review meetings in the absence of the Transport Manager
12. Supports communication throughout department including team briefings and publication of KPIs
13. Support implementation of service improvements in conjunction with customers and other areas of the business
14. Generate and implement ideas with regards to staff and operational changes, which will help drive continuous improvement
15. Ensure a secure and safe environment for staff, both in your department and across the wider business
16. Be responsible for the maintenance and fuel aspect of Transport Budget, to include various KPI’s and costs
17. Support the company in regard to reducing its carbon footprint, for example reducing road miles
18. Ability to deputise for the Transport Manager
Qualifications
19. Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is highly desirable
20. Good commercial knowledge of transport operations including experience of operating in a closed book, shared user environment
21. Previous management experience within a FMCG environment
22. Leadership and motivational qualities and proven experience of building a team
23. Knowledge and understanding of WTD, Drivers Hours and Tachograph Regulations
24. Operational knowledge of health & safety legislation
25. Planning and organising skills with a high level of numeracy
26. An effective communicator at all levels, good verbal and written skills
27. Genuine team player, a firm and confident manager who is skilled at setting clear objectives and motivating their team
28. Tolerant of change and able to work within an evolving organisation
29. Able to thrive in a highly competitive and demanding environment
30. The ability to problem solve in a pressurised environment
