The Role:
The post holder will drive the waste collection vehicles in a safe manner whilst providing advice and assistance to members of the public regarding waste collection services.
Hours of work: 37 hours per week
Requirements:
1. Drive and manoeuvre the vehicle to the collection points of all refuse containers.
2. Depending on operations either:
3. Empty contents of the vehicle at the landfill site or the Community Recycling Centre;
4. Drive vehicle to landfill site, composting or recycling plants as appropriate and offload contents in accordance with procedures in place at the relevant facilit
5. Supervision of assigned operatives. Ensure that assigned operatives fulfil their duties in full and in accordance with established procedures.
6. Ensure the safety and security of the waste collection vehicle and carry out checks each morning using the relevant check sheet and report any defects or damage to the vehicle to the Mechanics/Operations Supervisor.
7. Wash the vehicle externally each week and ensure the interior is adequately cleaned between bin collections to avoid contamination of loads that are consigned to the composting facility.
8. Retain a level of knowledge on the operation of the brown bin and kerbside dry recyclable collection services and provide advice to householders on same as required.
9. As appropriate help resolve complaints/ service requests from the public regarding waste collection and report to the Supervisor any issues that cannot be directly resolved.
10. Work as part of a team to ensure the completion of allocated daily schedules.
11. Where appropriate, deal directly with any matter reported by waste collection operatives in fulfilment of their duties, and in all other instances forward matters to the Supervisor for attention.
12. Report all accidents to the Supervisor.
Essential Requirements
13. Valid DVTA Driver Qualification Card;
14. Valid Digital Tachograph Card.
15. 1 year's relevant experience in each of the following areas:
16. Driving Category C vehicles;
17. Operating mechanical lifting equipment/hoist;
18. Dealing with the public in a customer service capacity;
19. Completing accurate records of scheduled and completed work.
