About Westminster Students' Union
The University of Westminster Students' Union (UWSU) is an independent, registered charity dedicated to enhancing the student experience at the University of Westminster. As they continue to innovate and strengthen their award-winning impact, they are seeking an exceptional individual with strategic vision and student union expertise to join their Board of Trustees and help guide their mission of ensuring every student feels they belong at Westminster.
Key Responsibilities:
* Contribute to the Board's strategic oversight and decision-making processes to deliver the 2026 Belonging Strategy
* Support the CEO and elected officers in achieving organisational goals and maintaining their sector-leading engagement scores
* Provide strategic guidance and constructive challenge to ensure robust governance structures and financial sustainability
* Help build strong relationships across the UWSU community, with the University of Westminster, and external stakeholders
* Work collaboratively with the Board to prioritise student belonging, wellbeing, and success through democratic processes
Candidate Profile
* Demonstrable knowledge of student union democratic functions, including elections, sabbatical officer roles, and student union governance structures
* Experience working at senior level within a student union or membership-led charity, with understanding of the intricacies of student union operations
* Thorough understanding of membership engagement, student groups governance, and data-driven insight approaches
* Knowledge of student union-university relationships and broader higher education sector dynamics
* Commitment to collective leadership and ability to challenge constructively while building strong relationships
* A personal commitment to UWSU's values of being honest, compassionate, sustainable and proactive

Time Commitment
* 4 formal Board meetings per year (September, November, April and June)
* 4 virtual sub-committee meetings per year
* Annual strategy day and occasional events
