Overview
This is funded as a 10 to 12 Programmed Activities (PAs) post with 7.5 Direct Clinical Contact (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs). There is an option to add additional PAs to offer an opportunity of adding a special interest day or further SPAs, increasing the total to 12 PAs. The appointee will have clinical responsibility for the care of acute elderly inpatients, primarily from Waltham Forest, with additional coverage for Redbridge, Havering and Barking & Dagenham on Woodbury Unit. The post aims to establish clear lines of accountability and to support the team, department and organisation in following the Trust’s Values in day-to-day work.

Responsibilities
* Be part of the Senior Psychiatrist on-call rota covering out-of-hours for Mental Health Services in NELFT; on-call covers Adult and Older Adult services (currently a 1:50 rota with a 3% Category A salary supplement).
* Lead on emergency Mental Health Act assessments in the Section 136 suite on the Goodmayes site where applicable, with a daytime (9am–5pm) Section 136 rota (approximately 1 day every 3 months).
* Establish a culture of care and collaborative working on the Woodbury ward; work as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide direct input to clinical cases.
* Provide clinical leadership and supervision to the team, work with older adult male and female patients and their families, and liaise with community older adult consultant psychiatrists as appropriate.
* Develop links with acute Trust A&E departments and geriatric services to continually improve services.
* On Woodbury ward (21-bed mixed ward), supervise doctors, promote high standards of medical care, and contribute to training and development.
* Act as clinical supervisor to doctors on the unit, providing education, facilitating development and maintaining professional standards.
* Support continuing professional development, undertake regular appraisal and develop a personal development plan; support new staff integration and cross-team training including policy implementation.
* Provide in-service teaching to Medical Students, Trainee Doctors, Resident Doctors and other multidisciplinary team members; participate in the weekly Academic Teaching Programme.
* Undertake administrative duties associated with patient care and record clinical activity accurately and promptly; maintain good IT skills and use the Trust’s electronic case record system.
Ward and Service Details
Woodbury ward is a 21-bed mixed ward serving older adults with frailty criteria and mental health needs, with a ward manager and shared matron with other older adult wards at the Goodmayes site. Occupational therapy, psychology and physiotherapy input are available on the ward.

* Provide in-service training and teaching to medical students, trainee doctors, resident doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
