Job overview

Exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Senior Biomedical Scientist (Quality & Training Supervisor) in Blood Transfusion and POCT, supporting Queen’s Hospital Romford and King George Hospital Goodmayes.

The role provides quality and training oversight across both sites, contributing to a department delivering 26M diagnostic tests annually. This is a critical clinical position ensuring accreditation and regulatory compliance.

Experienced in Blood Sciences, especially quality management and training. Blood Transfusion experience preferred, but all Blood Science specialties considered. Flexibility to work across two busy hospitals required.

Key Requirements:
• IBMS-accredited MSc/FIBMS in Biomedical Sciences, Blood Transfusion, or equivalent
• HCPC registration
• Proven experience with quality systems
• Laboratory training experience
• Ability to work independently and supervise staff
• Evidence of CPD and strong IT skills
• Effective presentation and communication skills

You show leadership, organisational and interpersonal skills, a patient-focused approach, and strong knowledge of quality, governance, risk management, and continuous improvement. Experience of supervising a lab section is desirable. The Trust is exploring new systems to meet growing 24/7 testing demand.

Main duties of the job

To oversee compliance with all regulatory standards and requirements within Blood Sciences ensuring quality standards are maintained. Under the direction of the Pathology Head of Quality Governance and Education they will be responsible for organising and participating in maintenance of quality programs ensuring that work is carried out to agreed standards and quality in a timely and efficient manner that meets the demands of the user and accredited bodies. Duties may include the supervision of other Blood Sciences personnel and taking a lead role in training, quality management and health and safety.

Essential criteria

1. Registration with HCPC Master’s degree or equivalent Specialist Diploma in any Blood Sciences discipline. Hospital Transfusion Practice or equivalent qualification.
2. MSc Biomedical or any Blood Sciences discipline.

3. Current IBMS membership
4. BBTS membership

Experience / Knowledge

Essential criteria

5. Good knowledge and or experience of blood sciences

6. Previous supervisory experience
