We’re driving bold, sustainable economic growth across the borough, and right now, we’re looking for a passionate Senior Planning Ecologist to help lead the way on Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).About the role:* To support the Development Management function of the council in applying and implementing Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).* To provide pre-application input/advice to colleagues and planning applicants in respect of Biodiversity Net Gain.* To assess planning application submissions to ensure compliance with relevant BNG policy/legislation including the assessment of submitted BNG matrices and BNG delivery proposals.* To have an enabling role in supporting applicants (and colleagues) resolve any issues encountered in devising BNG proposals and undertaking BNG matrix calculations etc.* To assess the accuracy and appropriateness of BNG Plans to ensure that proposed solutions (including onsite/offsite solutions) are acceptable and appropriate.* To assist and provide support to colleagues in the discharge of BNG / ecology related planning conditions.* To support Planning colleagues in respect of planning appeals where BNG / ecology is a relevant issue.* Provide support and expert advice in respect of non-BNG ecological matters as the need arises (noting that the priority and focus of this role is BNG support).**This job description sets out the key outcomes required. It does not specify in detail all the activities required to achieve these outcomes**.**General accountabilities*** Work to add value to, and be a valued member of, the team and to be valued by customers.* Maintain a safe working environment and ensuring, as reasonably practicable, that safe working practices are adopted by employees within the working environment.* Work in compliance with the codes of conduct, regulations (including financial) and policies of the council.* Exercise proper and absolute integrity in respect of all confidential matters and the confidentiality of personal and sensitive information.Show a commitment to safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable adults, young people and children, in line with the organisation’s policy.Essential qualifications/skillsDegree in ecology or related biological scienceDemonstrable experience in ecology or relevant biological scienceDemonstrable computer literacy and IT skillsExcellent verbal & written communication, including report writing and presenting material to a range of audiences.Comprehensive knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain and all of its components including the matrices and delivery approaches.Knowledge of the UK Planning system.Ability to organise and manage own workload.Ability to negotiate with developers to ensure delivery of quality ecological outcomes.Self-motivated and able to see tasks through to a successful conclusion, including meeting challenging deadlines where necessary.Proactive, able to develop positive working relationships with colleagues and used to working as part of a team.Ability to work flexibly and to tight deadlines.Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with current data protection legislation.Customer focused, responsive and co-operative with customers and look for innovative ways of improving service delivery.Ability to be flexible to the needs of the service.Desirable qualifications/skillsMembership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM)Experience of working within a local government setting.Experience of working within the Planning sector### Brighton and Hove Council### Haringey CouncilWe’re looking for Senior Registered Building Inspectors to take on a pivotal role within our Planning & Building Standards service.
