We're looking for a warm, energetic, and organised Assistant Front of House Manager to join our busy team at Black Horse Café. Nestled among plants and seasonal blooms, our café is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike—serving fresh, homemade food and great coffee in a relaxed, nature-inspired setting.
Key Responsibilities:
As Assistant Front of House Manager, you'll play a vital role in ensuring smooth daily operations and exceptional customer service. Your duties will include:
Team Leadership & Support
* Assist in supervising and motivating FOH staff during service
* Help with staff training, onboarding, and shift planning
* Lead by example with a hands-on approach and positive attitude
Customer Experience
* Greet and seat guests with warmth and professionalism
* Monitor table service and wait times
* Handle customer queries, complaints, and special requests gracefully
Operational Efficiency
* Oversee till operations, cash handling, and end-of-day reconciliation
* Manage table bookings and coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure timely service
* Maintain stock levels of FOH supplies (menus, condiments, takeaway packaging)
* Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards
Venue Presentation
* Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the café and outdoor seating areas
* Ensure displays, signage, and menus are up to date and visually appealing
* Support seasonal promotions and themed events in collaboration with the garden centre team
Managerial Support
* Step in for the General Manager during absences
* Assist with reporting, rota planning, and performance reviews
* Contribute ideas to improve service, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
* Assist with marketing and advertising through our company website and social media accounts
What We're Looking For:

* Strong leadership and communication skills
* Flexibility to work weekends and peak seasonal periods
* A calm, confident presence during busy periods
* Experience using Microsoft Office and social media platforms
* An aptitude for business management and development
* Previous experience in a café, restaurant, or hospitality role preferred
* Own transport essential due to location
