North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a dynamic and motivated Locum Consultant gastroenterologist to join our team of consultant gastroenterologists and gastrointestinal surgeons to provide an integrated digestive diseases service across north Cumbria. The North Cumbria GI Service is a new, cohesive and integrated department, combining the services of gastroenterology and endoscopy, upper gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, colorectal, emergency GI surgery.
The successful candidate will join a team of gastroenterologists supported by nurse specialists in IBD & hepatology across North Cumbria NHS Trust. Associated with the transformation of all our services across the Trust, and in conjunction with the introduction of our model for acute medical care, it is envisaged that future configurations will focus complex in patient work at the Carlisle site, and elective outpatient services (endoscopy and outpatient clinics) will be provided by all of the team across the Trust. Sub specialty interest will be encouraged where this contributes to and complements the department and Trusts service needs.
While appointees will be appointed to a base unit, all members of the team will be expected to contribute to all aspects of the general gastroenterology service across the Trust.
Responsibilities
* Provide service across the North Cumbria GI Service in gastroenterology, endoscopy, upper GI, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and emergency GI surgery as part of an integrated team.
* Be involved in the routine clinical care of inpatients and outpatients, including endoscopy activity and outpatient clinics.
* Collaborate with nurse specialists in IBD and hepatology and participate in service transformation across the Trust.
* Contribute to teaching, governance, audit, and quality improvement activities as part of a clinically led organisation.
* Be prepared to work across sites as required by service needs and future configurations.
* Take on-call commitment including Out of Hours GI Bleed cover.
Qualifications & Selection Criteria
* You must be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT to be eligible for appointment to this level of post.
Contract & Benefits
* The standard job plan attracts 10-12 Programmed Activities (PAs).
* Relocation assistance of up to £4,000 may be available for successful applicants moving to the region.
* Two dedicated GI wards at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle; 3-room endoscopy unit at Cumberland Infirmary; new endoscopy unit at West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven with 2 dedicated rooms; specialist GI physiology labs on both sites.
* Successful bid for a new 5-room Endoscopy Unit planned to open in 2025 at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.
