About the role
The Product Design Lead is responsible for delivering conceptual and physical appearance of the real-world product designs across a range of engineering projects for Royal Mail, it’s customers and partners. The role will work actively as part of the Design Engineering team, striving to modernise the look and feel of our products, both in the physical world as well as the digital user space, capturing our heritage but maximising the modern and relevance of our products as innovative solutions. This is a key role in our journey to bring the engineering vision to life, responsible for managing and developing key aspects of high-profile projects and supporting the growth of the engineering design strand.
Key Accountabilities
1. Deliver concepted designs for projects across the Design Engineering portfolio – utilising research and benchmarking
2. Analyse market needs and consumer preferences to ensure concepts meet current trends and ensuring designs are forward thinking and sustainable through the various engineering processes
3. Input into detailed design requirements and support engineering activity from prototype through to production design4. Actively contribute to design reviews and technical discussions
5. Produce detailed sketches and models for engineering project designs engaging all stakeholders
6. Champion new processes to drive in-house capability, innovation and people development within engineering
7. Will have the ability to lead, inspire and energise a team when required
About You
• Formal qualification in a creative subject with demonstrable experience where this skill has been linked to product design
• Experience in detailed product design and development within an engineering or automated environment
• A design background with proven ability to demonstrate intuitive thinking towards engineering problem solving and solution delivery. • Strong knowledge and experience of creating visual design concepts both in sketch and CAD formats
• Able to demonstrate where their designs have been used in the digital environment, on HMI or graphic user interfaces.
• Knowledge and experience of using design packages desirable but not essential (e.g. Autodesk)
