Selfridges Group: Group Assistant Accountant (OpCo) – Level 4 Apprenticeship
Role Context
The Selfridges Group is comprised of Selfridges in the UK, Brown Thomas and Arnotts in Ireland, and de Bijenkorf in the Netherlands, all successful department stores. The group maintains the individuality of each brand, tailored to their local markets and customers.
The Central Team supports the banners in thought leadership, cross-group project management, reporting, and governance. This role is ideal for those starting a career in finance and accounting, supporting the finance team in financial reporting, record keeping, budgeting, and forecasting, while studying towards a Level 4 Finance apprenticeship (e.g., AAT, ACCA, or CIMA).
Key areas of accountability
* Preparation and processing of journals for the Group centre and holding companies
* Preparation of the monthly management accounts
* Preparation of the Group management accounts and consolidation
* Preparation of Balance Sheet Reconciliations
* Preparation of the Group centre budget and forecast
* Business partnering with cost centre holders to understand and challenge costs
* Support the Accounts payable assistant with day-to-day activities, including payment runs and intercompany recharges
* Support the statutory year-end process for the Group centre, including financial statement preparation and auditor materials
* Ad hoc financial analysis and support to the team and cost centre holders

Apprenticeship details
The Level 4 accounting apprenticeship provides a strong foundation in finance, enabling certification at AAT, ACCA, or CIMA level. Apprentices combine work and study, gaining technical knowledge, practical experience, and essential skills for their current role and future career.
Off-the-job Training
6 hours per week are dedicated to workshops, reviews, and independent study. The remaining time is spent on daily tasks, gaining practical experience, and applying apprenticeship learning.
Duration
18 months, including the end point assessment.
Eligibility
* Demonstrate an increase in current skill level from the apprenticeship
* Not in full-time education
* Not participating in other government-funded programmes
* No overlap with previous qualifications
* Not self-employed
* No prior degree in Finance/Accounting
* Resident in the UK for at least three years or hold settled/pre-settled status
* GCSEs (Grade 5+) in Maths and English
* 3 A Levels (Grade 5+)
