This is key to enabling us to deliver on the promises we've made to the people of Wales to build a sustainable transport network that meets their needs.Role responsibilities The Head of Legal and Insurance provides essential support to Transport for Wales (TfW) with strategic, commercially focused legal and insurance advice together with managing any external legal and insurance advisor resource required to support such matters. Control a varied workload involving several areas of law (e.g. regulatory, public, commercial, construction and engineering and dispute resolution) through collaboration with stakeholders and specialist advisors to enable the progression of TfW activities. Support the leadership team in relation to negotiations with third parties by providing direction on strategies and tactics, leading/supporting negotiations with follow-up actions to achieve TfWs objectives. Work with directors and colleagues to identify, manage and mitigate risk by providing guidance and tailored advice and act as a subject matter expert to ensure TfW and its subsidiaries are well informed of risks. Oversee contract management for legal and insurance suppliers by managing, instructing and building relationships with legal and insurance advisors, insurance brokers and insurers to achieve best value service and reduce the cost of risk. Provide technical expertise on legal and insurance matters by being the primary point of contact and subject matter expert to ensure stakeholders are given clear advice that reflects the objectives of the organisation. Who we're looking for A lawyer qualified to practice in England and Wales with significant post qualification experience in commercial contract, construction, transport regulatory or public law. Demonstrable experience of managing workload without supervision whilst providing high quality service in a busy environment. Demonstrable experience of analysing and applying legal principles and facts to derive technically sound commercial strategies for complex matters. Demonstrable experience of problem solving and interrogating the law, factual data and information to identify the root cause(s) of problems. Welsh Language Skills The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role. Transport for Wales supports and promotes the use of the Welsh Language by employees and will encourage them to develop, improve and maintain their Welsh Language skills.
