Overview:

Buckswood School is seeking a Deputy Principal of Pastoral Care to join our Senior Management Team. The successful candidate will lead the strategic development and implementation of pastoral care across the school, ensuring the well-being, safety, and holistic development of all students. This role encompasses oversight of safeguarding, boarding, medical services, and the promotion of a positive school culture.

Key Responsibilities:

* Strategic Leadership:
* Develop and implement a comprehensive pastoral care strategy aligned with the school's ethos and objectives.
* Lead on the development and execution of the pastoral and boarding elements of the School Development Plan.
* Stay abreast of current research, trends, and issues relevant to pastoral care, mental health, and well-being.
* Safeguarding and Child Protection:
* Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring robust safeguarding policies and procedures are in place and adhered to.
* Lead the Safeguarding Team, providing training, support, and oversight.
* Liaise with external agencies and attend relevant conferences to ensure best practices in safeguarding.
* Boarding Oversight:
* Oversee all aspects of boarding provision, ensuring compliance with National Minimum Standards (NMS).
* Monitor standards in boarding houses, conduct regular inspections, and implement improvements as needed.
* Collaborate with the Head of Boarding to develop and review boarding policies and handbooks.
* Pastoral Care and Student Well-being:
* Foster a culture of care and support that reflects the school's values.
* Lead and manage House Staff, the Health Service, and counselling services.
* Chair committees related to behavior, online safety, and welfare.
* Develop and oversee the PSHE program in collaboration with academic leaders.
* Staff Leadership and Development:
* Assist in the recruitment and induction of pastoral staff, ensuring adherence to Safer Recruitment procedures.
* Implement effective appraisal processes and identify training needs within the pastoral team.
* Promote teamwork and motivate staff to ensure effective working relationships.
* Compliance and Inspection Readiness:
* Ensure the school is prepared for inspections, maintaining up-to-date policies and documentation.
* Oversee compliance with ISI, Ofsted, ISA, BSA and ESCC regulations in relation to pastoral care and safeguarding.
* Community Engagement:
* Promote effective links between the school and the local community.
* Support the promotion of the school to prospective parents and students.
* Organize and participate in school-related events and assemblies.

Qualifications and Experience:

* A relevant degree and teaching qualification.
* Experience in a senior pastoral role within a secondary educational setting.
* Comprehensive knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practices.
* Proven leadership and management skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Additional Information:

The Deputy Principal of Pastoral Care will be expected to teach a reduced timetable and participate in the school's duty rota, including evenings and weekends as required. This role requires a commitment to the school's values and the ability to inspire trust and confidence among students, staff, and parents.
