Purpose of role
The post-holder is responsible for contributing to maintaining the overall cleanliness and hygiene of the Care Home under the direction and supervision of the Head Housekeeper.
1. Key Results Areas
1.1 In partnership with the Head Housekeeper contribute to the delivery of the Care Home cleaning schedule to ensure the cleanliness of the home meets required hygiene and regulatory standards, including day to day housekeeping tasks, routine scheduled tasks, i.e. cleaning curtains, mattresses, etc. and proactive deep cleans.
1.2 Contribute to maintaining records related to housekeeping duties.
1.3 Work in partnership with Service Users and the Nursing/care team to support the cleanliness of Service Users' bedrooms, ensuring they meet acceptable hygiene standards.
1.4 Undertake laundry duties, ensuring laundry is managed in accordance with laundry cleaning instructions and infection control requirements in timely way that supports the availability of Service User clothing and Service linen.
1.5 Undertake kitchen duties, ensuring the kitchen is maintained to a high standard and Food Hygiene and Environmental Health Standards and Regulations are maintained.
1.6 Use all cleaning products in accordance with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations, ensuring safe handling and storage of these products.
1.7 Use Personal Protective Equipment provided to undertake cleaning duties.
1.8 Report any health and safety concern identified within the Care Home, to the Head Housekeeper or Registered Manager in a timely way.
2. General
2.1 Ensure all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
2.2 Notify the Registered Manager, or person in charge, as soon as possible of your inability to work, and on your return to work from all periods of absence.
2.3 Ensure the security of the Care Home is maintained at all times.
2.4 Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.
2.5 Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
3. Communication
3.1 Liaise with the Service Manager/Head Housekeeper/Person in Charge regarding cleaning requirements and/or concerns.
3.2 Participate in staff meetings as required.
4. Training & Development
4.1 Complete mandatory training courses, on or off site, as and when required.
4.2 Maintain professional knowledge and competence required to fulfil the role.
1. Working relationships
5.1 The post-holder will be required to develop and maintain good working relationships with Service Users, colleagues, visitors, carers, visiting professionals, commissioners and registration bodies
5.2 Display a friendly, flexible, helpful and courteous attitude to Service Users, colleagues, visitors and the general public.
Must have experience as a cleaner
Must have the ability to work independently
Must be proficient in cleaning and meeting infection control standards
Must have an understanding of issues of data protection and service user confidentiality
Able to work as part of a team
Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and in writing
