About the Opportunity
Amentum is currently recruiting for a Principal Piping Engineer to join our Energy business, which is entering an exciting phase supporting a key client’s UK nuclear fleet through a business transformation and supporting new small modular reactor developers. Our work spans Licensing, New Build, Generation, Life Extension, and Decommissioning, with high demand across the nuclear sector.
Your role will be to manage and deliver piping engineering analysis and design solutions adhering to project constraints of time, cost, and quality. Working alongside Operations and Engineering Managers, you'll enable the delivery of maximum value in complex project environments.
This role is based at one of our Energy offices (Newcastle, Warrington, Glasgow, Gloucester, Stockton, Bristol, or Knutsford). We support flexible working patterns and are happy to consider flexible arrangements.
Key responsibilities:
* Take ownership of technical challenges, develop strategies, and implement solutions through stakeholder engagement.
* Deliver technical analysis and design solutions.
* Produce and review design deliverables such as assumption notes, technical specifications, and calculation notes.
Qualifications and Experience:
* MEng, MSc, BEng, or BSc in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field.
* Minimum 10 years’ experience in heavy infrastructure, nuclear, or regulated industry design.
* Chartered status or working towards Chartership with relevant institution (e.g., IMechE, MIET).
* Experience working within design teams and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
* Experience in piping design/construction using American codes.
* Proficiency with stress analysis software (Caesar II, PipeStress).
* Stress analysis of piping to ASME III 1, 2, 3 and ASME B31.1, including dynamic and fatigue analysis.
* Experience with Heat Transfer Analysis and generating layout and Isometric drawings.
* Knowledge of AISC N-690 Code is advantageous.
* Familiarity with structural analysis software like GTStrudl.
