Job summary

We are recruiting a Specialty Registrar in Vascular Surgery. The role is full‑time, 40 hours per week, on a fixed‑term contract of 12 months at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

As one of six middle‑grade doctors, you will be expected to develop special interests in line with departmental priorities, contribute to teaching, audit, research and participate in out‑of‑hour rota.


Responsibilities

* Provide day‑to‑day care of all vascular surgery patients under consultant supervision.
* Manage complex cases and participate in multidisciplinary team discussions.
* Reflect on and review patient care to improve quality and safety.
* Engage in teaching, training, research and contribute to network and local service development.
* Participate in out‑of‑hour rota and other clinical duties as required.


Qualifications Essential

* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Successful completion of MRCS or equivalent at the time of application.
* Full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment.


Qualifications Desirable

* FRCS, EBVS or equivalent.
* Prior experience in vascular surgery at registrar level.
* Experience in endovascular procedures.
* Experience in leadership, audit and research.
* ATLS, CCRISP.


Knowledge Essential

* Competent in basic clinical procedures (CPR, infection control, physical examination, history taking).
* Ability to assess, recognise and initiate management of acutely ill patients.
* Prioritise clinical need and recognise own limitations.
* Understand patient confidentiality, data protection and clinical governance.
* Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.


Knowledge Desirable

* Knowledge of UK health systems, current NHS issues.
* Computer literacy and understanding of information systems in healthcare.
* Participation in clinical audit.


Skills Essential

* Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
* Demonstrated attendance at relevant educational courses and meetings.
* IT skills.


Skills Desirable

* Clinical capability in assessing acutely unwell patients.


Attitudes Essential

* Commitment to team working, flexibility and reflective practice.
* Good interpersonal skills, punctuality.
* Understanding of Trust values and educational ethos.


Fit to Practice Essential

* Evidence of safe practice ability.
* Meets GMC standards and Good Medical Practice.


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post requires a DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. Applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check, which will be deducted from salary over the first three months.
