Export Compliance & Quality Officer

An established UK-based manufacturing and engineering business is seeking an Export Compliance & Quality Officer to take ownership of quality systems, export controls, and regulatory compliance across the UK operation.
This is a key role within the business, acting as the primary point of contact for quality and export compliance matters. You will work closely with customers, suppliers, auditors, and internal stakeholders to ensure the business meets UK and international regulatory requirements while maintaining high quality standards.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing and advising on all aspects of quality assurance, export control, and trade compliance, combining hands-on operational activity with governance and advisory support.
Key Responsibilities
Quality & Regulatory Compliance
1. Act as the main contact for customer Quality departments, managing approvals, standards, and queries
2. Advise internal teams on quality, compliance, and implementation matters
3. Oversee the returns (RMA) process, working closely with Purchasing
4. Conduct and document quarterly supplier review meetings
5. Liaise with and host external auditors, customer visits, and site audits
6. Maintain approved supplier lists, certifications, and customer approvals
7. Manage FAIR reporting and records
8. Oversee reject management, including REACH, WEEE, and conflict minerals compliance
9. Maintain tool and equipment registers, including calibration records
Export Control & Trade Compliance
10. Ensure full UK export compliance in line with current legislation
11. Liaise with HMRC and the Export Control Organisation (ECO) and attend relevant training
12. Conduct export compliance reviews across UK transactions
13. Advise on Incoterms, deferment arrangements, and trade compliance matters
14. Manage customer-specific and trade licence applications and records
15. Determine commodity codes and import duty rates
16. Act as the point of contact for licence, ECCN, and end-use queries
17. Complete supplier end-use certification requests and manage customer undertakings
Additional Responsibilities
18. Oversee sanctions compliance, including screening and policy management (. AUKUS)
19. Provide compliance oversight for internal and international sales accounts
About You
20. Proven experience in compliance, quality, export control, or a related regulatory role
21. Strong knowledge of UK export control legislation and quality management systems
22. Experience working with auditors, customers, and regulatory bodies
23. Ability to interpret complex regulations and apply them practically
24. Strong communication, organisation, and stakeholder management skills
25. Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently
