Role Overview
Principal Regulatory Policy Manager at the Single Source Regulations Office (SSRO), an executive non‑departmental public body that regulates the UK government’s non‑competitive procurement of military capabilities. The role contributes to the procurement and delivery of key non‑competitive defence equipment capabilities, such as the new Dreadnought class of nuclear submarines, Type 26 frigates and Skynet military satellites. The SSRO manages over £115bn of contracts, establishes baseline profit rates for contracts under the single‑source regime, holds and analyzes contract and supplier data, publishes guidance on allowable costs, gives opinions on contract disputes, and continually seeks to strengthen the regulatory framework.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high‑level policy expertise and advice to develop and deliver the SSRO’s vision, objectives, strategies, policies and plans, including horizon‑scanning, keeping up to date with regulatory policy and parliamentary developments, and developing a strong understanding of qualifying defence contracts.
* Lead the SSRO Support function including the helpdesk, ensuring timely responses to queries, delivering onboarding and training sessions, disseminating intelligence, and effectively line‑managing the Stakeholder Support Manager and Coordinator.
* Lead complex projects and activities, such as international engagement with partner organisations, reviewing legislation for potential improvements, enhancing pricing and reporting, developing corporate and internal business plans, providing stakeholder guidance, managing multi‑disciplinary teams, engaging with public and private stakeholders, communicating SSRO work, investigating technology opportunities, and representing SSRO values.

Person Specification
Essential
* Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification or experience.
* Experience working within the defence sector.
* Strong critical thinking skills to challenge and consider alternatives, interpret data, and derive insights.
* Ability to develop policies and processes suitable for a defence and regulatory setting.
* Capability to translate strategic intentions into implementable options, including legislation review.
* Self‑starter, practical, pragmatic with strong project, time and resource management skills and a flexible ‘can‑do’ attitude.
* Experience planning and delivering research projects or policy reviews with clear data presentation.
* Proven collaborative work across organisational boundaries, building relationships and engaging stakeholders.
* Customer‑centric approach to stakeholder engagement with confidence and authority.
* Acts with integrity and consideration for others.
* Proficient user of MS Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
Desirable
* Good understanding of defence or public procurement, commercial contracting from the MOD or defence industry perspective.
* Experience handling sensitive data.
* Experience developing standards or guidance, running consultations or technical discussion panels.
* Good understanding of commercial economics and economic regulation in the UK.
Security Clearance
Successful candidate will require national security vetting and obtain Security Check (SC) clearance. The role is not a reserved role and is open to foreign or dual nationals.
